Where Healing Meets the Horizon
Florida Treatment Centers at The Cape was created around a simple principle: effective addiction treatment begins with understanding the person, not just the substance being used.
Located in Port St. Joe along Florida’s Gulf Coast, FTC provides a comprehensive continuum of addiction treatment in Florida for adults experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health concerns.
Our programs combine clinical care, medical and psychiatric support, evidence-based therapies, individualized treatment planning, wellness, and preparation for life after treatment.
We recognize that the people who come to us are more than a diagnosis or a collection of symptoms. They arrive with histories, relationships, responsibilities, strengths, losses, goals, and experiences that can all influence recovery.
Our role is to understand those factors, determine what each patient needs, and provide the clinical structure and support to help them move forward.

Why Florida Treatment Centers at The CAPE was created
Addiction treatment should do more than create temporary separation from alcohol or drugs.
It should help people understand what has been happening in their lives, recognize patterns that may be keeping them stuck, develop healthier ways of responding, and prepare for the realities they will face after treatment. That philosophy is at the center of Florida Treatment Centers at The Cape.
Our Florida addiction treatment center brings multiple levels of care together within one continuum, allowing treatment to respond as patient needs change. Medical Detoxification, Adult Residential Treatment, Day/Night Programming (PHP), and Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) provide different levels of structure and clinical support.
Patients do not need to follow an identical path through treatment. The appropriate starting point and progression depend on clinical needs, circumstances, progress, and recovery goals.
Where Healing Meets the Horizon
Treatment begins with understanding
Substance use tells us something important about why a person has come to treatment, but it does not tell us everything we need to know to help them recover.
Alcohol and drug use can exist alongside anxiety, depression, grief, trauma-related symptoms, chronic stress, relationship difficulties, physical health concerns, occupational pressures, and other experiences. For some patients, these concerns are closely connected to substance use. For others, different factors may become more important as treatment progresses.
Our approach begins with comprehensive evaluation and multidisciplinary clinical input to develop a clearer picture of what each patient is experiencing.
That understanding informs an individualized treatment plan and continues developing throughout care. As clinicians observe progress, challenges, treatment engagement, emotional responses, and changing needs, treatment can evolve with the patient.
Individualized care is not something that happens once at admission. It is an ongoing clinical process.
the cape experience
A place to heal. A place to belong.
Florida Treatment Centers at The Cape is located in Port St. Joe along Florida’s Gulf Coast.
For many patients, temporarily stepping away from familiar environments provides distance from routines, pressures, relationships, and triggers associated with substance use.
Our coastal setting provides opportunities for wellness, movement, mindfulness, outdoor experiences, and reflection that can complement the clinical work taking place throughout treatment. But the environment itself is not the treatment. It creates space to engage more intentionally in the treatment itself.
Clinical care, therapeutic relationships, medical and psychiatric support, individualized planning, and the patient’s own participation remain at the center of recovery.
More Individual Attention
A Low Patient-to-Therapist Ration
A treatment plan can only be truly individualized when clinicians have meaningful opportunities to know the patients they are treating.
Florida Treatment Centers at The Cape maintains a low patient-to-therapist ratio to support greater clinical engagement throughout the treatment experience.
Patients participate in scheduled individual and group therapy, but clinical understanding extends beyond formal sessions. Treatment engagement, emotional presentation, relationships with peers, responses to challenges, communication, and changes in behavior can all provide valuable information about progress and emerging needs.
This allows clinicians to remain closely attuned to the patient throughout treatment and adjust care when appropriate.
For us, personalized treatment is not simply about offering different services. It is about paying attention.
Clinical care with purpose
Florida Treatment Centers at The Cape is committed to evidence-based addiction treatment rather than relying on a single therapeutic philosophy or standardized experience for every patient.
Depending on individual clinical needs, treatment may incorporate:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Trauma-focused therapies
- Mindfulness-based interventions
- Individual therapy
- Group therapy
- Psychiatric care
- Medication management when clinically appropriate
- Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) when clinically appropriate
- Recovery education and skill development when clinically appropriate
- Structured relapse-prevention planning
- Wellness-focused services
- Continuing care planning
The question is not simply which therapies FTC offers. The more important question is which approaches are clinically appropriate for the person receiving treatment. Our multidisciplinary model allows different perspectives to inform care while keeping the patient’s individual needs and recovery goals at the center of the treatment process.
One Continuum with Different levels of Support
Recovery needs can change over time.
Someone who initially requires medical stabilization may later be ready for residential treatment. A patient receiving residential care may eventually benefit from PHP or IOP as greater independence becomes clinically appropriate.
The purpose of offering multiple levels of care is not to move every patient through a predetermined sequence.
It is to provide different levels of support as individual needs change.

Specialized Programming for Veterans and First Responders
Service can shape the way people experience stress, responsibility, identity, connection, and asking for help.
Florida Treatment Centers at The Cape offers a dedicated Veterans & First Responders Track for individuals whose military or professional experiences may be relevant to their recovery. The Track provides opportunities for shared connection and specialized programming while remaining grounded in individualized clinical care.
We do not assume that every Veteran or First Responder has PTSD, has experienced trauma in the same way, or developed a substance use disorder because of their profession. Instead, we recognize the culture and experiences associated with service while treating the person beyond the uniform, badge, title, or role
Treating Substance use and Co-occurring Mental Health Concerns
A place to heal. A place to belong.
For many patients, recovery involves addressing more than substance use alone. Anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, grief, chronic stress, and other mental health concerns can affect a person’s ability to maintain recovery. Substance use can also make existing emotional and psychiatric symptoms more difficult to understand and manage.
Our multidisciplinary approach allows substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns to be considered together when clinically appropriate. Patients do not need to arrive knowing exactly how everything is connected. Developing that understanding can be part of treatment.
